BE MAYOR FOR A DAY · LISTENING TO MITCHAM · APRIL 2027
LISTENING TO MITCHAM

A local conversation
before a Council decision.

I want to hear directly from the people who live, work and take part in Mitcham’s communities, and understand what they want Council to focus on.

MAYOR FOR A DAY

One simple
question.

I want residents to tell me what deserves attention, from the everyday issues that affect a neighbourhood to the bigger concerns that need Council focus.

Your answer can be a practical frustration, a community idea or something you believe Council should look at more closely.

Residents and community voices.

03

04

06
Overton Ward

Final community conversations.

Council record
AFTER THE CONVERSATION

What happens after I listen.

Good listening should lead to a clear next step. I want to bring the themes residents raise together, understand what sits within Council’s role and be open about what happens from there.

✓

Hear the everyday concerns

Pay attention to the practical issues residents experience in their neighbourhoods, from roads and footpaths to parks, facilities and everyday Council services.

✓

Understand the local context

Take time to understand why an issue matters, how it affects different parts of Mitcham and what residents believe would make a useful difference.

✓

Bring common themes together

Look across conversations for recurring concerns and practical ideas, while keeping sight of the different priorities raised by each neighbourhood.

✓

Ask the questions that matter

Test assumptions, examine the information available and ask difficult questions when they are needed to understand how a decision has been reached.

✓

Explain what can happen

Be clear about what sits within Council’s responsibilities, what needs further work and what practical options are available.

✓

Keep residents informed

Keep the conversation open by sharing what has been heard, what can be progressed and where residents can expect the next update.
